Cristiano Baricelli was born in Genoa, Italy in 1977. Twenty years later, his self-taught methods have led to many collective and personal exhibits. What evolved from drawing only with BIC pens is now experimenting with a mixture of techniques using acrylic paint and watercolor pencils. Influences present are from visionary and surreal forms of art, including cinema, TV, and comics.
Baricelli additionally collaborates with illustration editors, fanzines, and magazines such as: Grrrz Comic Art Books, Nurant, Watt, CartaCanta, Nitch, L'inquieto, Pastiche, Verde Rivista, Antropoide, Illustrati, Nèura, Freak Out, Guida 42, Carie, Rituali, Effe Rivista, Risme,

“In 1260 Jacopo da Voragine, Dominican friar and bishop of Genoa, wrote the "Golden Legend", a hagiographic text on the lives of the saints. His intention was to mark chronological time with sanctity, one saint a day. In 2023 Cristiano Baricelli, through his "Santini", shows his personal hagiography: saints, madonnas, devils and fiends, skeletons, puppets and pigs. They are weakened, mediocre, flawed saints, protectors of a weak and impure humanity, which has turned out badly and has no blessed protectors in heaven; indeed, it has them, but they are inept. And ugly. (...) In miraculous power ranking , the saints and Madonnas of Baricelli are in the last place: when summoned in prayers of intercession, thaumaturgical request or other, rather than interceding for us, they look back with sweet eyes, almost asking us for help on their side. They wait for the miracle. They are rude creatures, but we feel inexplicably close to them. They are alone, they ask us for a little company and comfort, even if they are on the verge of committing suicide.”
