Melinda R. Smith is an artist whose work explores the liminal regions between reality and fantasy, using tropes strongly reminiscent of childhood play. With her lifelong love of storytelling, she conceives of her pictures as staged theatrical scenes that tell archetypal stories whose roots reach for the dark core of memory and truth. In 2022, following the upheavals of Covid, she left Los Angeles, California, after 30 years to return to her hometown of Kalamazoo, Michigan.
