Kevin Jacobs was born in North Hollywood, CA in 1964. He is primarily a self-taught artist in the mediums of drawing and collage with extensive experience in printmaking. While attending Los Angeles Valley College and the Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design, he was introduced to etchings and monoprints. Experience at a fine art print studio allowed him to develop the monoprint technique that can be seen in his current drawings. Kevin has exhibited his work in galleries throughout Los Angeles California, Orange County California, Portland Oregon, and Olympia Washington.
“I'm inspired by German expressionists such as Otto Dix, Max Ernst, George Gross, and George Baselitz. It was during the punk rock movement of the early 80’s that I honed my visual voice. In the mid 80's I created a poetry zine called the Shattersheet. I designed the graphics creating Xerox photo collages for the front cover and inside page layouts. The Shattersheet was distributed throughout Los Angeles County to all bookstores and literary art centers such as Beyond Baroque in Venice, CA. The Shattersheet published several great Los Angeles poets such as Charles Bukowski, Wanda Coleman, Skie Bender, and many others.”
